Laura & Derek’s wedding was romantic, fun, light-hearted, and filled with personality and thoughtful DIY touches. The whole day was spent at the amazing Misty Farm in Ann Arbor. This was our first time shooting there and we can’t say enough about it- such a wonderful venue for a wedding! The couple’s family and friends all contributed in such awesome ways- Laura’s friends got together to put the bouquets of wildflowers together themselves, and the guys’ boutonnières were handmade felt creations. Laura’s matron of honor Megan wrapped each of the bouquets with a unique mix of burlap, twine, buttons and personal details (Laura’s had a locket photo of Derek as a little kid). Derek’s sister Ashley and their good friend and usher James serenaded them with a lovely rendition of The Water by Johnny Flynn. They had a charming bluegrass band- The Company of Strangers play during their ceremony and reception as well- they were so talented and the music was perfect for the idyllic setting. Each table had an herb or vegetable theme, with vintage tins, wildflowers, antique botanical illustrations. Guests were given cute little pots and seed packets to start their own gardens, with recipes and personal stories from the couple. The dessert table was filled with contributions from relatives- scrumptious homemade goodies. Their wedding cake was, of course, delicious since it was from Ann Arbor’s own Zingerman’s Bakehouse, with an adorable cake topper made by Star House. Listening to the funny and touching toasts, we learned more about Laura and Derek’s love story- everyone agrees that this couple is absolutely perfect for each other. And it was obvious- they laugh together all the time, and look at each other with such love- it was such a pleasure to photograph them and we wish them all the best!
