It’s not often at wedding celebrations that the bride and groom spend much of their time performing on stage, but James and Niki’s guests were so thrilled they did! The couple met playing in the Detroit Party Marching Band, a guerrilla brass music collective, and share a passion for their hometown of Detroit, local music and food, and their amazing friends and family. James plays the trombone, and Niki plays the saxophone and sings. It was an awesome and totally unique lakefront party filled with brass, old-timey records, laughter, gold sparkles, rain, sunshine, family, dancing, dogs, and good old-fashioned fun. They made sure their favorite people and music were all represented- Lac La Belle, Detroit Pleasure Society, Detroit Party Marching Band, and Richie Wohlfeil from Lo & Behold Records. Niki wore her grandmother’s wedding dress from over 60 years ago, and she and all the important ladies in Niki’s life helped her get ready. She serenaded James during the DPS set, belting out A Good Man is Hard To Find. It’s a rarity that the mom and son dance is to Devo’s Whip It, but it sure would be fun if it happened more often! Even Iggy, the couple’s Tom’s Tavern rescue dog, dressed up for the occasion. Coriander Kitchen and Farm, a 2016 Hatch Detroit finalist, provided an inspired meal. Mother Nature began the party with a torrential downpour, but followed up with a peaceful and gorgeous sunset over Lake Huron. What an amazing field trip up Michigan’s east coast to Fort Gratiot, and such a fun night rocking out to raucous brass and timeless tunes with this awesome couple!
